Native Iron Age manufacture. The vessel had been lined with bracken, and it contained fragments of leather and string. Analysis of the leather has indicated that it probably came from a pouch. Evidence of vegetable tanning indicates that it is of Roman manufacture, and there are stitch-holes for a seam. The string is made from fine white wool. (Holmes 2006, 3, fig. 2b)
