Summary

Hoard of 39 denarii, 26 glass and amber beads, several fragmentary specimens, and fragments of metal ornaments, including two silver brooches: Vespasian - Commodus. "Denarii are dated to the second half of the 1st century – the end of 2nd century AD, dating of the brooches, however, indicates that the hoard was deposited in the second half of the 5th century AD."

Site comment

"The hoard was discovered during archaeological research carried out in 2015, in connection with building of the Ostrów Wielkopolski bypass, in place which has been settled several times in the prehistory and the early Middle Ages. The objects from the deposit were partly scattered and covered with tarnish resulting from the impact of high temperature from younger, early-medieval production pits which functioned in the immediate vicinity of the place where the hoard had been hidden. At the same site, during a field survey conducted in 2012, another deposit was discovered, including 67 Roman denarii dated to the same period as the aforementioned coins."

It has a strap bow and a diamond-shaped foot decorated with carved crossed lines. This type of brooches was very common among Gothic cultures between the mid-3rd and the early 5th century AD.

Silver brooch
It "has the bow wrapped in wire and the foot decorated with metopes. Its form has an affinity to type Praga, although it seems slightly earlier than the classic specimens of this type due to its construction and dimensions."
