The precise location and date of discovery are unknown, apart from that the coin was found in the Netherlands. Van der Vin (1980) suggests the eastern part of the country, and states that the coin came to light c. 1979. Coins and Medals (1980) states that the medallion was found 'in gravel along the river Maas at Lochum (sic) (Gelderland, Holland) c. 1975'. This is impossible, as Lochem is not located on the Maas, and is in fact a city north of the Rhine.

Coin medallion
At a later date, the coin has been made into a medallion; a circular rosette was fit around the coin. Around the obverse side, this rosette bears the Greek text ΚΩΝΣΤΑΝΤΙΑ ΖΗΣΟΜΕΝ. Coins and Medals (1980) suggests that the coin was likely made into a medallion in the 5th-7th cent. CE.
